Sun Bay Beach is the best known beach in Vieques and considered one of the best beaches in Puerto Rico. White sand, turquoise blue water and green palm trees decorate the beach and make it perfect for all who are looking for a beautiful natural landscape.
This beautiful beach, approximately one mile long, has sanitary facilities, showers, food kiosks, picnic tables, cafeteria, lifeguard, parking and a camping area. There are also interesting hiking trails for those who want to stay active. These will take you to a number of fantastic as lookouts and other attractions.
Sun Bay Beach is located east of Esperanza and is formed by the projections of Punta Negra and Cayo de Tierra, which act as wind dampers. Bordering the wide beach is lush tropical vegetation, which includes two varieties of coconut trees, almond trees and sea grapes.
The calm waters of the beach Sun Bay are ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Underwater sights include starfish, fish and underwater vegetation. Fishing and boating are other common water sports activities. A popular attraction is the semi-wild horses grazing in areas around the bay. The beach attracts many visitors and has all the facilities to accommodate this.
The beach is administered by the National Parks Company of Puerto Rico and is open from Wednesday to Sunday and holidays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., although access to the beach is open 24 hours a day.
